Protected High Side Switches, Linear Technology
The Linear Technology single and dual protected high side switches offer low low RDS(ON) switching. The LTC1477 and LTC1478 series of high side switches have built-in protection against short-circuit and thermal overload conditions. These devices also have a built-in charge pump which generates a gate drive above the supply voltage to enhance the internal NMOS switch.
There are two levels of protection with the LTC1477 and LTC1478 series. A short-circuit current limit which is set at 2A which can be reduced to 0.85A by disconnecting portions of the power device. The second is provided by a thermal overload protection which limits the die temperature to approx. 130°C. Suitable applications for the protected high side switches include:
- Notebook Computer Power Management
- Power Supply/Load Protection
- Supply/Battery Switch-Over Circuits
- Circuit Breaker Function
- "Hot Swap" Board Protection
- Peripheral Power Protection
